The nurse left, wanted to take the blood  pressure again after some time.
I recalled Margaret’s meditations, calmed every part of body, and focused on my “mind’s eye”.
Everything went black and silent, I had absolute focus. I “woke up” just before nurse walked in.
She took my blood pressure again, it had gone down to normal at 120 over 80.

For years, I have had severe shoulder pain and limited range of motion from sports injuries. Depending on the movement, the pain was excruciating.  I tried everything – surgery, cortisone shots and physical therapy but the pain was never gone.

Reiki was my last resort. I was very skeptical but decided to give Reiki a try anyway.

I took a Reiki Level I Training from Margaret and have practiced Reiki self-care on my shoulder regularly ever since.

The results are amazing! My pain is pretty much gone and my flexibility has increased by 80-90%.

Before Reiki, the pain was constant. Based on a scale of 1 – 5, the pain level has gone from a solid 4 to 0 or 1/2 since my training.

Reiki has proven longer lasting and more effective than anything else.

I used the alternate nostril breathing practice before my recital. It really cleared my mind and got rid of all my nervous tension. The negative thoughts that people were judging me went away. Then I could really focus on the music I was about to present. I had a very successful recital.

Working with Margaret in yoga and meditation has helped with my fibromyalgia. I’m not in constant pain any more. I can work longer at my desk and walk more in the mall. I have had problems in my hips and my knees for years. I don’t get the numbness in my knees any more or the nagging pain in my hip.

I used to get massive pain in my knees – the the knee cap and joint. It would go numb to the point where I wouldn’t be able to walk. I no longer have that. The chronic pain I experienced in my hips as a result of an injury I sustained five years ago is gone as well.

It has been helping with my cervical lymphadenopathy. I don’t have the pain in my neck like I used to so I don’t have to take my muscle relaxers any more.

It has improved my sleep.  I am experiencing less stress. I am reaching the flexibility I would like.  

This is after 8 weeks once a week on Wednesdays for about an hour of yoga.

MEDITATION FOR PANIC ATTACKS, MOOD REGULATION AND PUBLIC SPEAKING

‘Sofia’ is a private client.  We recently added meditation to her self care regimen.

Sofia: Your meditation CD has been a life saver for me. I used it during my big event to prevent panic attacks. Every time I felt stressed out and I couldn’t fall asleep.  Every time I was trying to meditate to a YouTube video and it wouldn’t work to relax me. Every time I tried a Yoga Nidra video on YouTube and it didn’t work I would be like, “Oh, forget it! I’m going to just turn Margaret on.”

There’s something about the voice, the pace at which you’re going, the words you’re saying. The whole experience for an entire hour is incredible. I would immediately start feeling relaxed and weightless which is where I was looking to be.

What I like about your approach is that you’re not just repeating (monotone) big toe, second toe, third toe… A lot of the Yoga Nidra videos and CD’s do that. You have a certain variety so I do not get annoyed by what I hear.  Instead I can just relax into the conversation – into the flow of what you’re saying. I loved it.

Before the big event and during the big event I used it in my hotel room.  I knew it was exactly what I needed.  I wasn’t taking any chances.  I would just turn on Margaret.

Margaret: What does a panic attack feel like?

Sofia:  I feel someone has their hands around my throat. No matter how hard I struggle, it’s impossible to escape. I can’t breathe and I feel like I’m suffocating. It goes into my stomach.  I feel it in my head.  My legs become numb. Then my heart starts jumping out of my chest.

The vertigo starts after my heart starts jumping out of my chest.  I know that’s my cue to leave the room or it will turn into vertigo. The worst thing that could happen is the vertigo in front of clients.

Margaret:  When do these attacks happen?

Sofia:  When I get annoyed with a situation or when I’m afraid.  I’ve recently developed stage fright.  My business partner has had to step in and speak for me at past events.

Margaret: What do you do when then they happen?

Sofia:  I walk.  I frantically run around the room to stop it.  Then I start crying.  Then I tap tap tap (EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique) just to do something. Then I take medication.

Margaret: An anti-anxiety medication?

Sofia: Yes. I worry about getting them, you know. It takes so much energy to prevent the panic attacks that I get exhausted. Thanks to your meditation, I only had one during my big event. It’s been a big life saver for me.

Thanks so much again. I feel amazing. I was very relaxed all day yesterday because of our energy healing session and fell asleep that night like a baby to your CD. I finally slept deeply for the first time in over a year.  I’m more relaxed and resilient to everything around me. I look forward to more energy healing sessions with you.

Margaret:  These practices don’t just manage pain, they remove the root cause. To benefit fully, don’t sleep. Remain aware. Watch all impressions, sensations and emotions. Just follow the sound of my voice.

Elena:  I don’t fall asleep. I listen. But maybe I’m unique.

Margaret: When you do these practices, you heal. You dissolve stress and eventually come into resonance with the vibration of peace and compassion. This is your full potential. You relax into it.

Elena: Healing. You know healing is very important. That is what everyone wants.  A lot of problems and issues happen from stress so stress really is the underlying issue.  I don’t think people buy stuff to help them unwind. They might turn on a little YouTube. I don’t know what type of things people do to manage stress but for healing that’s important. I’m paying you a ton of money I wouldn’t pay for just stress release.  I started working with you because I was in pain.  Coincidentally, I also unstressed so that feels good.  But my initial reason, my main reason is that I want to be pain free. I want to be healed. That’s why I see you.

Margaret:  Do you feel that this is healing you and helping your pain?

Elena:  I mean I have not been able to find anything before you that actually worked.

Margaret:  What all did you try?

Elena:  Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, ointments and creams that my chiropractors recommended.  I worked with a local Chiropractor as well as one of my clients from Canada who is also a Chiropractic professional that has a spine center in Canada.  I have taken pain medications. I was considering surgery. I do a lot of stretches and I still do them but the first time I actually felt relief was after that very first session so…

Margaret:  You can’t argue with success.  If it works ….

Elena:  But I think that the biggest reason I work with you is healing. And my favorite thing about this is that I don’t need to do anything.  I just turn it on (your CD) or turn you on (private session) and I just lay and listen and whatever is happening in the thought process is helping. I’m assuming that’s how it works. I have no idea (much laughter) but I’m pain free.

I sit at a computer all day and I get tense in my neck and my shoulders because I don’t get to get up and move.  When I come to Yoga Nidra, I am really tense in the shoulders and neck all the way up into my scalp. Even my mind is tense. That’s where I hold all my tension. When I leave Margaret’s classes, I am totally relaxed. I have no tension anywhere. It’s wonderful.

As I saw this woman walking towards me at the Theia Light Center booth for the Women’s Show, she caught my eye with her grace, beauty and flowing movements. Little did I know what effect she would have. After introductions and some conversation, I found in her a calmness that permeated my mind. As a practitioner at Theia, I am familiarizing myself with other holistic modalities offered there. I joined Margaret’s Yoga Class series. My first impression with her soon became evident. Through meditation training with Margaret, I have reduced stress and can now manage my migraines. Before I didn’t want to look ahead because I had all this misery. Now I actually look forward to life. I can’t wait to see what the next possibility is that’s coming down the road. It thrills me that something so good for you like meditation releases unknown tensions. You don’t realize all the stress and tension you were holding inside until it starts to go away. Meditation brings so much good stuff into your life and it’s not hard to learn. It’s simple compared to how much it helps you. I could get migraines daily for months. When you have a migraine, you don’t want to get up and do anything because sounds and light bother you. You become numb to migraines. You can’t imagine life without them. They were so frequent that they were just a part of my life. When I had a migraine, instead of being with family and friends, I was in a dark room alone. That’s depressing. The physicians say, “Here, take a pill for this. Take a pill for that.” I rely on them. They just don’t always point you in the right direction. Before I began meditating, I took five pills every night at bedtime: 1 muscle relaxant, 1 melatonin and 3 regular preventative meds. Now I take one pill at bedtime. I was frustrated. The doctors kept giving me meds. I would take a handful of pills just to function. They dulled the pain but the migraines never really went away. It took me a while to get to the point where I began looking for something else. People don’t search for something less invasive that actually works. They get worn down and do whatever the doctor tells them. My physician was prescribing Botox injections. This protocol would have been 30 to 40 shots per treatment around my head every three months. I was so desperate that I was considering it. If doctors would offer other options, you wouldn’t get to the point of despair. When I start getting stressed, I meditate until I am relaxed. I am less stressed at work. When I meditate, I get completely relaxed and at peace. Before I start to study, I use the alternate nostril breathing technique. It helps me retain more of what I am learning. I use the visualization technique before I go to sleep at night to relax and calm me. It has allowed me not to take as much migraine medicine. I’m more relaxed and not as stressed. Relaxation helps with the headaches. This is big stuff especially considering how much medicine I was taking as a preventative. I used to take three pills daily as a preventative measure and three more when I got a migraine (6 pills/day). Now I’m just taking one a day. If I feel a headache coming on, I take one of the three preventative meds. Meditation makes you happier. You enjoy life more. I catch myself smiling more for no reason. Results to date: Happier. More Relaxed. Less Stressed. Fewer Meds (a LOT less). Through meditation, you get rid of all this junk that caused all of your issues. You get rid of things you didn’t realize you had in there. When you’re on the path and making progress, it’s within the realm of possibilities to keep evolving. There’s no limitation. You can continue to grow and evolve in all different ways. Migraines are limiting. Meditation is limitless. Meditation affects all aspects of your life – not just one area. It’s like a snowball. You get rid of the junk so the good stuff is allowed to flourish. I use meditation at the right time. I apply it at work to avoid getting “pull out your hair crazy stressed-out.” I practice meditation at home to maintain the calm and peace that it brings. I intend to get to the point where I don’t even need medication. I will meditate until I’m peaceful all the time no matter what. Before I didn’t want to look ahead because I had all this misery. That’s all I could see in my future was more misery. Now I can’t wait to see what the next possibility is that’s coming down the road. I can see myself living life and not just hiding in a dark room because I can’t stand the sight of light.
